KUNTSE, 14 Jul: Local MLA Tsering Lhamu inaugurated the Nalanda Library at PM Shri Government Middle School here in Lumla subdivision of Tawang district on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA congratulated the school and said, “A library is not just a house of books; it is a repository of knowledge and wisdom. It helps students gain insight and nurtures their intelligence.”
“A library is an essential part of education, where students, apart from reading for leisure, can nurture their curiosity and acquire knowledge on diverse subjects,” she added.
Despite budget constraints, she appreciated the Tawang DC, other officers, and the school administration for proper execution of the project.
Meanwhile, DC Namgyal Angmo highlighted the importance of libraries in the digital age. She said that, although technology has transformed learning, libraries continue to hold a significant place in students’ lives. “They help develop reading skills and critical thinking,” she added.
She expressed gratitude to Lumla ADC Tashi Dhondup and Dudunghar CO Tsetan Droma for their dedication and sincerity in accomplishing the task despite limited funds.
Earlier, Rinchin Sangey and the teachers of the school narrated how they started the library in a single room with a seating capacity for around 15 students. They said the library has helped students excel in inter-school literary activities in the district and improve their academic performance.
“Nalanda Library is a symbol of hope, knowledge, and learning. It reflects the collective efforts of the administration, educators, and the community to promote a strong reading culture among students,” said Rabgyal Rinchen, one of the teachers.
He said the library would provide a peaceful and inspiring space where children can read, learn, expand their knowledge, and dream of a brighter future. He added that the initiative would help shape young minds and foster a lifelong love for books.
Among others, Tawang DDSE Hirider Phunsok, PRI members, GBs, and public leaders attended the function.
