Opposition parties are demanding discussions in Parliament on the alleged theft of Ram temple donations, the NEET paper leak, the rollout of E20 ethanol-blended petrol, the situation in Manipur, and other student-related issues. Even as Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju urged all parties to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament and support government bills through constructive debate, the opposition appears in no mood to relent. The monsoon session has begun on a contentious note, with the government facing protests on the streets from students and inside Parliament from opposition parties.

The monsoon session of Parliament, which began on Monday and will continue until 13 August, was disrupted on its very first day, forcing repeated adjournments.

The all-party meeting itself got off to a frosty start, with the united opposition staging a symbolic walkout to protest the government’s invitation to rebel TMC MPs.

Confrontation is set to dominate the proceedings in Parliament. It remains to be seen whether any meaningful legislative business can be conducted amid disruptions, slogan-shouting, and speaker muting the microphones whenever any opposition member speaks against the Modi government.
