DIRANG, 19 Oct: National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets of the North Eastern Region Directorate were flagged in at the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) here in West Kameng district on Monday after completing the Bailey's Trail Trek.
The cadets were flagged in by Tezpur (Assam)-based NCC Group Headquarters' Group Commander Brigadier Mayank Vaid at the NIMAS.
Congratulating the cadets on their achievement, he described the expedition as an extraordinary journey of endurance, courage and adventure.
The team, comprising 15 boys and 15 girls, covered a distance of 153 km during the trek, which began on 5 October.
Traversing the arduous route through treacherous terrain and challenging climatic conditions, the cadets negotiated rugged mountain trails, steep ascents and formidable passes at altitudes ranging from 14,000 to 17,000 feet. Braving biting cold, unpredictable weather and the physical demands of high-altitude trekking, the young cadets demonstrated exceptional determination, discipline, resilience and fortitude, exemplifying the indomitable spirit of India's youths, according to an official release.
Beyond the physical challenge, the trek served as a platform to promote environmental conservation, adventure, physical fitness and mental resilience. It also reinforced the values of teamwork, leadership, self-reliance and camaraderie while fostering a deeper appreciation of the fragile Himalayan ecosystem and the importance of responsible engagement with nature, the release stated.
The expedition also offered the cadets a unique opportunity to experience the pristine natural beauty, breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage of the Eastern Himalayas. Their interactions with local communities and exposure to indigenous traditions and customs enriched their understanding of the region's cultural diversity and strengthened their commitment to national integration and the spirit of unity in diversity.
The NCC directorate commended the team, stating that the trek was a testament to the meticulous preparation, rigorous training and collective efforts of the cadets and their support staff. The expedition not only tested the physical and mental limits of the participants but also imparted invaluable life lessons in perseverance, adaptability and overcoming adversity.
The directorate further congratulated the cadets on completing the challenging journey, describing it as a "saga of determination, courage and indomitable spirit." Their achievement exemplifies the NCC motto, 'Unity and Discipline', and reflects the organisation's enduring commitment to nurturing responsible, resilient and adventure-oriented young citizens.
"The mountains may challenge the spirit, but determination finds the way," the directorate stated, adding that the Bailey's Trail Trek was not merely a journey across the Himalayas but a triumph of character and camaraderie, and the courage to go beyond limits.
