YINGKIONG, 30 Jun: The Upper Siang Narco Coordination (NCORD) Committee on Tuesday reviewed the action taken by various stakeholders and deliberated on strategies to strengthen the district’s fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

Presiding over an NCORD Committee meeting at the DC’s conference hall here, Assistant Commissioner (HQ) Binti Libang urged all members to take the resolutions of the NCORD Committee seriously and intensify coordinated efforts towards making Upper Siang a drug-free district.

She stressed the importance of sustained awareness campaigns, preventive measures, and collective responsibility in addressing the growing challenge of substance abuse.

Sikiing Koje Charitable Society chairperson Dr Mity Jopir advocated a multi-pronged approach to tackle the drug menace.

She emphasised the need for greater participation and close coordination among CBOs, NGOs, the police, and the district administration to create a strong community-led movement against substance abuse.

DSP Gocham Sakter also spoke.

During the meeting, officials from various departments and representative from the Adi Bane Kebang (ABK), Upper Siang unit also shared their suggestions and experiences.

The members emphasised adopting a practical and coordinated approach to intensify public awareness, strengthen vigilance, and prevent the spread of drug and substance abuse across the district.

During the meeting, the network problem in Katan circle was taken up seriously and the committee strongly urged the SDO (telecom) to address the issue and ensure early restoration of connectivity. (DIPRO)
