Editor,

I would like to draw the attention of the authorities concerned to the serious traffic congestion on the road from Hathi Matha to the high court in D Sector, Naharlagun, particularly during peak office hours from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and 5 pm to 7 pm.

One of the major causes of the congestion is unregulated roadside parking and inadequate parking management. The road is a single-lane route used by residents of D Sector, as well as people from parts of Polo Colony and Pachin Colony. Consequently, there is heavy movement of vehicles on this road, especially during office hours.

Earlier, there was a diversion shortly after Hathi Matha that passed through the agriculture office and rejoined the main road near the high court. However, following the construction of the new high court building, this diversion has been closed, putting additional pressure on the already congested main road.

In view of the above, I humbly request the ICR traffic police and the corporator of D Sector to kindly look into the matter and take necessary measures to ease the traffic congestion. Allowing roadside parking on only one side of the road with proper enforcement could help maintain a smoother flow of traffic. Furthermore, the authorities may consider restricting the parking of four-wheelers from the agriculture office diversion junction towards the Polo Park diversion junction, if technically and administratively feasible, so that vehicles can move more smoothly.

I hope the authorities concerned will consider this issue seriously and take appropriate measures at the earliest for the convenience and safety of residents and commuters.

A concerned citizen,

D Sector,

Naharlagun
