PASIGHAT, 9 Jun: A weeklong NSS special camp, organised at Bodak village by the NSS unit of the College of Agriculture (CoA) here in East Siang district, concluded at the seminar hall of the college on Monday.
The programme commenced with an address by NSS volunteer Moge Lollen, followed by the administration of the ‘Pledge for Life – Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE)’.
The function was attended by renowned social worker Rajkapoor Lamba, Gram Panchayat Member (GPM) Kangge Tayeng, and Bodak GPM Salia Tayeng, besides faculty members, non-teaching staff, and NSS volunteers.
In his address, CoA Dean Prof Sanjay Swami said that the special camp provided a valuable opportunity for students to learn from the village community while sharing their agricultural knowledge and skills with the villagers. He appreciated the active participation of NSS volunteers in the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan, establishment of a nutritional kitchen garden, blood donation activities, environmental conservation programmes, and other community service initiatives.
Addressing the gathering, Lamba encouraged the volunteers to play an active role in nation-building. Emphasising that service to society begins at the individual level and extends to the nation, he urged students to uphold the spirit of the National Service Scheme (NSS) through selfless service and meaningful community engagement.
A brief report on the camp was presented by NSS Programme Officer Dr Kh Lily Devi, highlighting the successful implementation of various activities by 58 NSS volunteers.
Major activities included cleanliness drives in the college campus and Bodak village, skill development programmes for village youths, demonstrations on vermicompost production technology, establishment of a nutritional kitchen garden under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan, drug awareness campaigns, plantation drives on the occasion of World Environment Day, and a blood donation camp organised in collaboration with the Blood Centre of Bakin Pertin General Hospital.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to NSS volunteers and blood donation camp participants.
