ITANAGAR, 14 Aug: The state police on Thursday issued an advisory, cautioning the public against sharing unverified security-related content on social media. 

The advisory follows unknown calls suspected to have been made by Pakistan intelligence operatives to a staffer of a senior police officer, seeking sensitive information on the Taksing border issue.

The police observed that photographs, videos and messages relating to border incidents, movement, and deployment of security forces are being circulated on various social media platforms.

"In this regard, the general public has been advised to exercise caution while using social media, and refrain from sharing or forwarding unverified contents relating to security matters," the advisory read.

It further requested citizens not to upload or share any photographs, videos or information regarding the location, movement, deployment or operational activities of the security forces.

"Such information, even when shared with good intentions, may inadvertently affect operational security and the safety of security personnel" the advisory added.

"The police urge the public to rely only on official statements and verified sources for information regarding sensitive security-related developments.

"Rumours and unverified information should not be circulated as they may create unnecessary fear, confusion and apprehension among the people," the police said, urging the people to use social media responsibly.

It added that a small act of restraint by every citizen can make a significant contribution towards maintaining peace, public confidence and the security of the state and the nation.
