RONO HILLS, 20 Aug: Governor KT Parnaik inaugurated the state of the art Broadcast & Digital Media Resource Centre of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) on the university campus here on Thursday.
In the first live telecast from the facility, the governor said that the inauguration of the centre at the department of mass communication marks another significant milestone in RGU's journey in media education and public communication.
Recalling the inauguration of the community radio station, Radio Rono 91.2 FM, on 11 August, 2023, he said that these two assets reflect the steady progress of the university and will have a far-reaching impact on higher education, public awareness, and the development of Arunachal Pradesh.
The governor emphasised that the Broadcast & Digital Media Resource Centre is not merely a physical facility but a centre for learning, creativity, communication, and public service. "It will equip students with practical skills in broadcasting, production, editing, anchoring, and visual storytelling while promoting informed dialogue, educational programming, and cultural preservation," he said.
He noted that television remains one of the most trusted and influential mediums of mass communication, and urged media practitioners to use it responsibly to promote transparency, civic awareness, and social change.
"Through well-researched programmes on issues such as drug abuse, corruption, environmental protection, public health, and social justice, the studio can help build a more informed, responsible, and progressive society," Parnaik said.
Reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call from his Independence Day address to strengthen the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and empower women through the Lakhpati Didi initiative, the governor urged RGU to utilise the media resource centre as an instrument of positive social transformation. He said that the centre should produce impactful content and awareness campaigns to combat drug abuse, particularly among the youths, while also highlighting the success stories of women entrepreneurs and self-help groups.
The governor said that, by showcasing local role models, innovative livelihood initiatives, and community-driven development efforts, the centre can inspire young people to choose productive and healthy lifestyles and encourage greater participation of women in economic activities. He emphasised that media, when used responsibly, has the power not only to inform but also to motivate behavioural change and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
Mass Communication Assistant Professor Moji Riba informed that the Broadcast & Digital Media Resource Centre of RGU, established in the department of mass communication, is a modern audiovisual production and training facility created to strengthen experiential learning, digital content creation, institutional communication and professional media education within the university.
Riba further informed that the media studio will provide students with hands-on exposure to the complete media production workflow. Students of mass communication will be able to undertake practical training in broadcast journalism, news production, anchoring, camera operation, studio lighting, audio production, video switching, programme direction, floor management, podcasting, editing, colour grading, sound design, documentary production, and virtual production, he said.
To commemorate the special inaugural function, the governor participated in a plantation programme, 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam', symbolising the enduring bond between the mother and her child and the collective responsibility towards nurturing and protecting nature. He expressed confidence that 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' would inspire a culture of environmental responsibility and leave a lasting green legacy for future generations.
