TAWANG, 29 May: The 90 RCC of the 42 BRTF under Project Vartak carried out a plantation drive of native rhododendron saplings along the vulnerable slopes of the Sela tunnel approach road in Tawang district on Wednesday.

The plantation was undertaken in the eco-sensitive terrain of Sela Pass with the aim of strengthening slope stability, preventing soil erosion, and reducing the risk of landslides through natural and sustainable measures.

Officials said the initiative is not only aimed at protecting the roadside slopes but also at restoring the region’s native Himalayan vegetation and biodiversity. The plantation is expected to contribute to long-term ecological balance and help in reducing environmental impact in the high-altitude area.

The move reflects the ongoing efforts to balance infrastructure development and connectivity in remote frontier regions with environmental conservation and sustainable practices.
