ITANAGAR, 19 May: Rubi Lombo from Arunachal Pradesh has been selected as one of coaches for the national team for the Asian Mountain Bike Championships, scheduled to be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 23 to 26 June.

She is among the five coaches and supporting staff selected for the Asian championships, The Cycling Federation of India (CFI) said in a letter on 15 May.

The other officials selected are Kulwant Singh (coach), Army Adventure Wing, N Lokesh (technician), Karnataka, Prashant Bhatt (coach), Uttarakhand, and Vivek Kumar (masseur), NS Patiala.

Hailing from Apani village in Dibang Valley district, Lombo, an assistant MTB coach, is currently working with the Sports Authority of India at the Netaji Subash National Institute of Sports, Patiala. She is presently posted at the Rajiv Gandhi High-altitude Training Centre, Silaro, NCOE.

Lombo is the state’s first woman cyclist (MTB) and NIS-trained cycling coach.

A total of 14 cyclists have been selected to represent India at the championships.

The squad:

Men’s elite: Kushiman Gharti, Army Adventure Wing (AAW), Ashish Sherpa, Himachal Pradesh, Shiven, Haryana, and Kamlesh Rana (reserve) AAW.

Men’s U-23: Tsewang Norboo, Ladakh, Dhananjay ST, Karnataka, and Ayush Negi (reserve) Air Force.

Men’s junior: Antony Raj (Tamil Nadu), Pranesh S, Tamil Nadu, Rehaan Roshan (Karnataka), Ramani (reserve) Air Force.

Women’s elite: Pranita Prafull Soman, Maharashtra, Star Narzary, Karnataka, Sandhya Mourya (reserve), Madhya Pradesh.

Women’s U-23: Manali Moreshwar Ratnoji, Maharashtra, Joshna Joy (reserve), Kerala.

Women’s junior: Hashini K, Tamil Nadu, Sowbarnika S, Tamil Nadu, Keerthana Therese Thalody, Kerala, Kiana Baruah (reserve), Karnataka.

The selected coaches and cyclists will be attending the national MTB coaching camp scheduled from 22 May to 20 June in Silaro, Himachal Pradesh.
