ITANAGAR, 27 Jun: The Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre, a unit of the AP State Council for Science & Technology (APSCS&T), in collaboration with New Delhi-based Centre for Scientific Outreach, hosted an aviation outreach programme here on Saturday.
The initiative aimed to familiarise students with emerging developments in aviation, aerospace, and drone technology while encouraging them to explore future career opportunities. The event saw the participation of approximately 100 attendees, including students from Green Mount School and various other schools across the ICR, accompanied by escort teachers, 1st AP Bn NCC cadets from Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic College, and internship trainees from Dera Natung Government College.
Addressing the gathering, APSCS&T Chairman Dr Tage Taki urged the students to maximise their use of available scientific infrastructure. Emphasising the transformative potential of unmanned aerial vehicles, he highlighted how drones can revolutionise the transportation of life-saving medicines and essential supplies to remote, inaccessible areas of the state.
Dr Taki encouraged the students to develop a solution-oriented mindset to address real-world challenges. He advised them to utilise the reverse engineering facility at the Centre of Excellence for Science Technology Innovation and Research, reminding them that “young minds are like a blank canvas,” and stressing the importance of lifelong curiosity.
AP Science Centre curator Vivek Kumar emphasised that scientific outreach must extend beyond classrooms to the grassroots level. He noted that in a geographically challenging state like Arunachal Pradesh, drone technology is vital for improving connectivity, development, and public service delivery.
The programme featured a blend of theoretical insights and hands-on learning, led by industry experts.
National Aviation Olympiad (Centre for Scientific Outreach, New Delhi) national coordinator Vaibhav Varun conducted an insightful session on emerging technologies in India. He guided the students through drone regulations, certification pathways, aviation safety, global employment prospects, and career opportunities.
A live demonstration was conducted at the parade ground, IG Park, by Gajendra Kumar Gangwar, an expert from the North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach, Guwahati. The participants were introduced to UAV fundamentals, DGCA Drone Rules, 2021, sensor payloads, calibration procedures, safety protocols, and flight simulations.
The comprehensive outreach programme provided the participants with vital insights into contemporary aviation developments, bridging the gap between theoretical science and practical, modern-day technological applications.
