YUPIA, 5 Sep: Shops operating without valid trading licences were penalised and alcoholic beverages and tobacco products were seized from shops near school premises during a joint market inspection and enforcement drive in Yupia and Tigdo areas of Papum Pare district on Friday.

During the drive, five shops were found operating without valid trading licences, while two shops were found operating with expired licences.

The team also seized tobacco products and alcoholic beverages, including whiskey and beer, from shops near school premises.

As part of the drive, the team also conducted an on-the-spot awareness and advisory programme for local shopkeepers.

Defaulting establishments were served notices to obtain or renew their trading licences within 30 days, and were apprised of the legal and procedural requirements.

Shopkeepers were further cautioned against stocking, displaying or selling tobacco products within a 100-yard radius of school compounds. They were warned that repeat violations would invite stricter legal action, including possible sealing of the establishment.

The inspection was carried out by officials from the Trade & Commerce Department and Arunachal Pradesh Police, comprising Trade Development Officer Sorang Yapa, Inspector Toko Mira, and others. (DIPRO)
