YUPIA, 24 Aug: The Papum Pare Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs Department conducted a surprise inspection at Doimukh market and a petrol pump in Doimukh to safeguard consumer interests and verify the accuracy of delivery of petroleum products.
The team also inspected the HPCL petrol depot in Huto village, Doimukh.
The inspection team comprised District Consumer Protection Officer Dr Debia Tana, Doimukh Town Magistrate Nyalisa Raji, and LM&CA Inspector Tao Tasar.
"During the inspection, a petrol pump was found dispensing petrol and diesel with short delivery beyond the permissible limit," the Papum Pare DIPRO informed in a statement, adding that a case was accordingly booked against the establishment under Sections 26 and 28 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009.
Dr Tana urged consumers to remain vigilant and exercise their rights while purchasing goods and services. He informed that consumers have the right to receive the correct quantity and quality of products, and to obtain relevant information regarding prices and standards.
He further advised consumers to check petroleum products at retail outlets, using the facilities provided at the dispensing units. "In case of suspected adulteration, short delivery or readings beyond the maximum permissible error (MPE), consumers may approach the nearest legal metrology officer or lodge complaints through the e-Jagriti platform," he said.
The department also urged traders and users of weighing and measuring instruments to obtain valid verification certificates for their instruments to avoid seizure and penalties. Traders were advised to strictly comply with the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, including mandatory declarations and the requirement not to sell packaged commodities above the declared maximum retail price (MRP).
"The department reiterated its commitment to protecting consumers from unfair trade practices, short delivery, adulteration and other forms of exploitation, and appealed to the public to remain alert and seek appropriate legal and consumer-protection channels for redressal of grievances," the DIPRO added.
