ITANAGAR, 24 Jun: Likha Togur, Head Gaon Burah (HGB) and a respected community leader from Sito village under Pistana Circle in Keyi Panyor district, passed away on Monday. He was 88.
Born in 1938, Togur dedicated his life to community welfare, traditional dispute resolution, and local diplomacy.
He was widely admired for his eloquence in traditional discourse, humility, strict discipline, and unwavering determination in uniting his family and the Likha clan. In recognition of his natural oratory skills and philanthropic spirit, he was appointed Gaon Burah (GB) at the young age of 30 and was later elevated to the post of Head Gaon Burah (HGB).
Throughout his tenure, he served as a key peacekeeper across the Pistana and Deed circles. He was known for arbitrating land disputes, resolving complex family conflicts, and safeguarding the interests of tribal society. His last rites were performed on Wednesday in his native village.
Among his distinguished children is former All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) general secretary Nilly Likha Tabo.
