ITANAGAR, 7 Jun: The Students’ Union of NERIST (SUN) has decided to launch an indefinite hunger strike from 8 June over the alleged forced resignation of NERIST director Prof Narendranath S.

In a letter to the NERIST board of management (BoM) chairman on Sunday, the SUN said that it has been compelled to launch the strike until its demands are met as it had received no response from the Ministry of Education, the NERIST BoM chairman, or the state government to its 3 June letter regarding Prof Narendranath’s resignation.

The SUN’s demands are that the Education Ministry reject the resignation and allow Prof Narendranath to continue his full five-year tenure as director, and release of the CCTV footage from the director’s chamber on 29 May, recorded during the incident that allegedly led to the compelled resignation.

The union said the demands were placed before the union education minister and copies were also sent to the Arunachal Pradesh governor, the chief minister, the education secretary, Ministry of Education, and the NERIST BoM chairman.

The SUN demanded that the state government must initiate strict legal proceedings against those responsible for the forcible resignation.
