TAWANG, 27 Jul: Tawang DC Namgyal Angmo directed the district police to intensify night patrolling, particularly in shadow and vulnerable areas, and to conduct unannounced checks frequently at scheduled and isolated areas to prevent any unlawful activities.

Addressing a district-level Narco Coordination (NCORD) Committee meeting here on Monday, the DC reiterated the importance of conducting unannounced inspections in private schools and hostels as decided during the previous NCORD meeting.

She said that, while government institutions remain under regular monitoring, private educational institutions also require equal vigilance.

The DC directed the departments concerned to ensure sustained follow-up action and to organise awareness programmes  on drug abuse and related issues in private schools as well.

Angmo further appealed to members of the market welfare committees, GBs, NGOs, and the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities, particularly in shadow areas where street lighting is inadequate or surveillance is limited.

She said that community participation, coupled with coordinated action by all stakeholders, is essential to keep Tawang safe from the menace of drugs and other unlawful activities.

DSP Togum Gonggo invited feedback from the members to strengthen coordination in preventing drug abuse and unlawful activities across the district.

Old Market Bazaar secretary Dawa Tashi emphasised the need for stricter ILP verification, particularly for hawkers and temporary vendors. He urged the district administration to take stringent measures against stray dogs and animals roaming free in market areas, stating that they often create traffic obstructions and pose a risk of accidents.

Representatives from central intelligence agencies and paramilitary forces also participated in the deliberations and shared their inputs on strengthening surveillance, intelligence sharing, and coordinated enforcement. (DIPRO)
