Editor,

We wish to draw the attention of the APPSC to the issue concerning the eligibility of candidates for the TGT (secondary) post.

Recently, some TGT aspirants who were rejected for not possessing the prescribed second class in graduation approached the court against the decision of the APPSC. The commission has clearly mentioned second class in graduation as an essential qualification in the recruitment notification.

Some candidates are reportedly arguing that they have obtained 45% marks and that ST candidates are entitled to a 5% relaxation. However, this issue should not be treated merely as a matter of percentage of marks. TGT (secondary) is a subject-specialist teaching post, and the prescribed academic qualification is intended to ensure that the candidate possesses the required specialisation and academic standard in the subject concerned.

A candidate who does not possess the required second class qualification in graduation cannot simply be treated as having the prescribed subject-specialist qualification merely because he/she has obtained 45% marks or is entitled to a percentage relaxation. The applicable academic regulations classify such a qualification, ie, below second class as simple pass/pass course, rather than subject specialist (honours) in specific subject.

Therefore, the APPSC is respectfully requested to strictly follow the qualification prescribed in the recruitment notification.

The academic standard prescribed for a TGT (secondary) subject-specialist post should be maintained, so that candidates possessing the notified qualification are treated differently from those with pass course/simple pass (below second class) graduation degrees.

We also respectfully request the APPSC to release the remaining pending TGT results at the earliest, so that candidates who have fulfilled the prescribed eligibility conditions do not continue to face uncertainty and delay.

We hope the commission will kindly examine the matter strictly in accordance with the recruitment notification and applicable rules and take an appropriate decision in the interest of a fair and transparent recruitment process.
