ROING, Oct 14: A tiger was sighted near Tiwari Gao along the Roing-Anini road on Wednesday afternoon. A video captured by a resident showing the tiger roaming near the roadside went viral on social media. Forest officials later also sighted the animal.

Speaking to this daily, Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary divisional forest officer (DFO) Mito Rumi said efforts were underway to track and capture the tiger.

"Our staff are on the ground and making every effort to trace the tiger to capture it. The tiger was sighted at around 4 pm. Our staff immediately swung into action," Rumi said.

Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, the movement of two-wheelers has been strictly prohibited in the area, particularly during the early morning, evening and night hours.

According to an advisory issued by the DFO's office, people have been advised to avoid loitering, picnics, sightseeing or stopping in the vicinity of the 19-km to 23-km stretch.

"People are also advised to keep their vehicle windows closed while travelling through the stretch and refrain from getting out of their vehicles. They should also avoid venturing into neighbouring forest areas for trekking or collecting minor forest produce," the advisory stated.
