LONGDING, 6 Aug: A training programme on ‘Recent Scientific Technologies in Mithun Husbandry’ was organised by the Longding Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) for mithun farmers at Nginu village in Longding district on Thursday.
A total of 78 mithun farmers from Nginu and Ngisa,and other neighbouring villages participated in the programme.
Course director Dr Tilling Tayo delivered a comprehensive lecture on the salt and mineral licking block (SMLB) technology for mithun during the technical session. He explained that the technology helps congregate free-ranging mithun at designated locations in the forest, thereby facilitating easier monitoring, nutritional supplementation, and mithun health management.
As part of the extension initiative, Dr Tayo announced that salt and mineral licking blocks would be installed in both Nginu and Ngisa villages to demonstrate the technology under field conditions and encourage its adoption by farmers.
Jomlo Mongku Mithun Farmers’ Federation chairman Tadang Tamut delivered an informative lecture on the use of solar rechargeable tracking devices for efficient monitoring of free-ranging mithun in forest areas. He stressed the importance of regular foot and mouth disease (FMD) vaccination,and demonstrated the significance of electrical stunning as a humane method of slaughter in accordance with modern animal welfare standards.
Nginu village chief Longwang Wangham, Nginu-Ngisa Mithun Farmers’ Association president Kaigam Pansa, its secretary Genwang Wangsa, and convener Bawang Wangsa commended the KVK for organising the first-ever scientific training programme on mithun husbandry in the village.
