NAHARLAGUN, 31 May: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted permission to the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) to start postgraduate (MD/MS) courses in 11 subjects, with a total intake of 23 seats.

In addition to offering the MBBS programme, the institute has been conducting Diplomate of National Board (DNB) courses since 2020. The medical college itself started functioning in 2018.

The NMC has granted permission to start MD and MS courses in paediatrics (2 seats), anaesthesiology (2 seats), obstetrics and gynaecology (2 seats), radio-diagnosis (3 seats), general medicine (2 seats), general surgery (2 seats), anatomy (2 seats), microbiology (2 seats), physiology (2 seats), community medicine (2 seats), and pharmacology (2 seats).

The institute has already started admissions for the current academic session in MD general medicine, MS general surgery, MD/MS anatomy, MD microbiology, MD physiology, MD community medicine, and MD pharmacology.

“The seats were allotted during the last round of counselling, and admissions have already taken place,” said a TRIHMS official.

The MD courses in paediatrics, anaesthesiology, obstetrics and gynaecology, and radio diagnosis will commence in the next academic session.

“The counselling process will begin after the NEET-PG examination, which is expected to be held around September, and will continue till January. Following the counselling, the remaining four courses will start at the TRIHMS,” the official added.

In 2024, the NMC granted permission to the TRIHMS to increase its MBBS intake from 50 to 100 seats.
