NAMSAI, 5 Aug: Namsai district police arrested a wanted drug supplier from Changlang district and seized 24 grams of suspected heroin during a naka checking on Tuesday evening.

On receiving information about a motorcycle carrying suspected heroin from the Innao-Diyun-Changlang side towards Namsai, a police team led by Namsai SDPO Kengo Dirchi, swung into action. A naka was established near the Piyong Road tri-junction leading to Wagun road, where the motorcycle was intercepted around 6 pm.

The occupants were identified as Sunil Kumar Chakma (45) and Subash Chakma (40), both residents of Udaipur-I village in Diyun of Changlang district, Namsai SP Sangey Thinley said.

During the search, 24 grams of suspected heroin, along with the motorcycle and other incriminating articles were recovered and seized, the SP said. The drug was concealed in two plastic soap cases, the SP said.

A case has been registered at Namsai police station under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act, 1985.

Further investigation is underway to identify the source of the contraband and dismantle the entire supply chain involved in the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, the SP added.
