RUKSIN, 15 Jul: Water supply from Lesing mega water supply project near Ledum village in East Siang district has been restored on Wednesday, enabling supply of drinking water to Ledum and Bilat villages.
The PHE department said restoration of water supply in other damaged sites will take two to three days.
Besides men and machinery, the department has engaged elephants to lift water pipes to the project site with no motorable roads on the rough foothills.
According to officials, restoration of breached pipelines in affected sites is underway and water supply to Mirem, Mikong, Niglok, Ngorlung, Ruksin and Oyan villages in Pasighat West constituency would be restored soon.
The water supply project was damaged by cloudburst-induced flash flood on 28 June, resulting in disruption of water supply in Pasighat West area for the last two weeks.
Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering has sanctioned Rs. 10 lakh for procurement of pipes and renovation of the Lesing water supply project.
On Wednesday, Ering, along with departmental officials, visited the damaged water supply project at Korang and sanctioned Rs. 10 lakh for renovation of the water supply project. He also sanctioned Rs. 10 lakh for reconstruction of two wooden bridges between Sido and Tene villages, which were washed away by flash floods.
During the visit, Ering assured locals that he would propose a scheme under central-sponsored PMGSY to the government for reconstruction of the RCC bridge over Rema river, which was damaged in flash floods.
The MLA also granted Rs. 10 lakh for renovation of public infrastructure damaged by floods and erosions at Bokrang and Dekam colonies in Ledum.
Besides government schemes and MLA LAD funds, Ering contributed Rs. 25 lakh from his side for early restoration of water supply systems, including MICs at Mirem, Remi, Miglung, Mikong and Niglok and Ngorlung villages under his constituency.
Ering said he recently met Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and placed demands for adequate funds under FDR schemes for Pasighat-West area.
He also approached the inter-ministerial central team and Rajya Sabha Member Tai Tagak, who recently visited the flood-hit areas in Pasighat West constituency, to press for adequate relief and rehabilitation measures for the affected families.
The flash flood caused widespread damages breaching roads and bridges, washing away standing crops, animal farms and orchards besides damaging fishponds, dwellings and other public properties.
