PASIGHAT, 24 Jul: The Adi Ba:ne Kebang Youth Wing (ABKYW-Apex) has appealed to Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the East Siang deputy commissioner and the departments concerned, including the RWD, PWD and PHED, to take immediate steps to restore road connectivity and drinking water facilities in the flood-affected villages in East Siang district.

Informing that the youth wing members haveinspected the flood-hit areas and witnessed the hardships faced by the affected people, ABKYW-Apex president Narmi Oki Dai particularly highlighted the situation in Korang and Sido villages, where damaged roads and disrupted drinking water supply continue to create serious difficulties for the residents.

The ABKYW-Apex further announced that it has distributed Rs 4,17,000 as relief assistance to flood-affected families of the district with the help of funds raised through a voluntary online contribution drive launched after the devastating floods that struck the region on 28 June. The ABKYW-Apex president stated that the one-day contribution drive received voluntary support from people across Namsai, Yingkiong, Boleng, Pasighat and Itanagar. He thanked every individual and organisation that contributed towards helping the flood victims.

 The youth wing stated that it prioritised assistance for families whose wet rice cultivation (WRC) fields and houses suffered major damages. Financial assistance was provided based on the extent of the losses.

The relief distribution was as follows: Sido village – Rs 25,000; Korang village – Rs 20,000; Bilat village – Rs 40,000; Boying village – Rs 40,000; Mongku village – Rs 12,000; Ledum village – Rs 1,80,000 (Rs1,05,000 for seven damaged WRC fields and Rs75,000 for three damaged houses);, Mirem village – Rs 75,000 (five damaged WRC fields); and Rasam village – Rs 25,000 (one damaged house).
