PASIGHAT, 1 Jul: Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, accompanied by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive assessment of the flood damage in Boying village in East Siang district following the recent overflow of the Sibo Korong river.
The dignitaries visited the worst-affected areas, inspected the damage caused by the floods, interacted with affected residents, and reviewed the impact on public infrastructure, agricultural land, and private property. They also took stock of the ongoing relief and restoration efforts being undertaken by the district administration.
Addressing the affected residents, Chouhan assured them that the Government of India would extend all possible assistance for relief, rehabilitation, and restoration works. He stated that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre remains fully committed to supporting the Arunachal Pradesh government in rebuilding damaged infrastructure and ensuring that timely relief reaches every affected family.
Rijiju observed that the unprecedented flooding witnessed in Arunachal Pradesh and neighbouring Assam was triggered by exceptionally heavy rainfall, with several locations recording more than 200 mm of rainfall in a single night.
He noted that although the monsoon season presents challenges every year, the intensity of this year’s rainfall resulted in widespread damage to infrastructure and loss of lives.
Rijiju reiterated that the Central Government stands firmly with the people of Arunachal Pradesh and will provide all necessary support for the restoration of infrastructure and the rehabilitation of affected communities.
Khandu stated that the state government’s immediate priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of every citizen, provide timely relief to affected families, restore damaged infrastructure, and expedite rehabilitation efforts.
He assured that the state government stands firmly with the people during this difficult time and that no effort would be spared to ensure assistance reaches every affected household at the earliest.
Guardian minister of East Siang district Nyato Dukam, MLAs Oken Tayeng and Tapi Darang, deputy commissioner Sonalika Jiwani, superintendent of police Pankaj Lamba, BJP Arunachal Pradesh state president Kaling Moyong, and heads of the departments concerned were also present during the inspection.
