PASIGHAT, 9 Jul: A six-member inter-ministerial central team on Thursday visited flood ravaged sites in Bilat circle (East Siang) and Kora circle (Lower Siang) and took stock of the losses and damages.
The central team, led by Home Ministry Joint Secretary (IS-II) Nishtha Tiwari, during the visit heard the grievances of the flood-affected families and assured them of relief and rehabilitation measures through central assistance.
The central team also instructed the state government officials to prepare estimates for payment of compensation against loss of individual properties caused by the flash flood, and for renovation of public infrastructures.
On the way to Ledum, Mirem block ZPM Tabir Tatan apprised the central team of losses and damages in his area triggered by the recent flash flood and erosion.
The team visited the flood ravaged fishponds and farming sites owned by Olik Tapok Taloh in Ledum and heard out her grievances.
The team while moving to Kora circle inspected the RCC bridge over the Rema river which collapsed during the flash flood. The bridge along the Pasighat-Tene-Koyu PWD road was damaged when surging water of the river eroded a portion of a middle pillar on 28 June.
However, movement of light vehicles on the bridge has been permitted following a mild repair of the broken portion.
The inter-ministerial team also included the Jal Sakti Ministry’s (CWC) Superintending Engineer of Guwahati Office Saket Krishna, Director of Agriculture & Farmer Welfare (Jute Development, Kolkata) Jintu Das, Deputy Director (PFC-I) of Expenditure under the Union Finance Ministry Nirmay Pratap Singh, Regional Officer of Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (Tezpur) W Blah, and Union Rural Development Ministry’s Undersecretary Raj Kr Gupta.
The central team was assisted by Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering, Nari-Koyu MLA Tojir Kadu, East Siang ZPC Ruth Tabing Boko, PRI leaders, officials of the district administration, Agriculture and Disaster Management Departments and engineering departments during the visit to the flood-affected sites.
The team and other state government officials left Ruksin for Itanagar in the evening. They will meet the state’s chief minister, chief secretary and other state government officers there on Friday.
