RUKSIN, 4 Jul: Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering urged the state and the central governments to sanction funds for restoration of roads, culverts, bridges and other public infrastructure damaged by flash floods in East Siang district.

Ering recently met Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju in Itanagar and urged them to take necessary initiatives for granting adequate funds under the Flood Damage Repair (FDR) scheme.

The MLA on Friday visited flood and erosion-affected areas and took stock of the post-flood situation and the hardships faced by the people. He instructed the officials concerned to assess losses and damages caused by the recent flash flood and submit a renovation proposal under the FDR scheme.

Overflow of rain-fed rivers and streams caused extensive damage to dwellings and other infrastructures in different rural areas of Pasighat, Yagrung, Silley-Oyan, Ruksin and Bilat circles of East Siang district.

Floodwater inundated human habitations, crop fields, fishponds, vegetable farms and horticulture gardens in Pasighat West area, leaving a trail of devastation. It also submerged National Highway 515 at three locations between Ruksin and Pasighat, disrupting road communication for several hours.

Residents of flood-affected areas are also facing shortage of drinking water and essential items.
