PASIGHAT, 8 Sep: More than 70 students of the Arunachal Pradesh University (APU) and Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC) attended a workshop on employment opportunities for Hindi students, held on Tuesday at the APU as part of the Hindi Diwas fortnight celebration on Tuesday.
The workshop, titled 'Employment Opportunities and Prospects for Students of Hindi', was organised by the APU's Hindi department in collaboration with Shabd Bharati (Hindi Resource Centre), Guwahati, and the postgraduate department of Hindi, JNC.
Speakers highlighted a growing range of career paths for Hindi students, including positions as Hindi translators and Hindi officers, teaching posts through NET/JRF, and openings created by the SSC Hindi translator recruitment examination.
APU Registrar Narmi Darang said that interest in Hindi-related courses has risen sharply over the past 25 years, calling the language an important link between Arunachal Pradesh' many tribal communities. He urged students to build both their language and professional skills to take advantage of emerging opportunities, and praised the workshop for giving them practical insight into career pathways and competitive exams.
Shabd Bharati chairperson Prof Anant Kumar Nath said his organisation has run employment-oriented Hindi courses across Northeast India for 25 years. He pointed students toward diploma courses in translation and stressed that time, commitment and determination are essential to developing strong reading and writing skills.
He also recalled the early years of the Hindi department at Rajiv Gandhi University, crediting the contributions of Prof Tomo Riba and Prof Tamo Mibang.
JNC Hindi HoD Dr HN Pandey also traced the department's early history at Rajiv Gandhi University, and spoke about the value of observances such as Hindi Saptah and Hindi Pakhwada in promoting the language.
Technical sessions, led by Shabd Bharati's Kalicharan Basfor and general secretary Dr Mohan Koirala, covered emerging employment trends in Hindi, opportunities in government and private sectors, translation work in advertising and multinational companies, and preparation for the SSC Hindi translator exam.
The students also received hands-on training in using Hindi on computers.
The event included group discussions and question-and-answer sessions, during which students raised queries on competitive exams, translation work, and career planning.
Among others, Academic Affairs Dean Prof PC Jena, students, faculty members from both institutions, and administrative staff attended the programme.
