PASIGHAT, 11 Oct: Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC) here in East Siang district observed the World Mental Health Day 2026 on Saturday with an awareness programme and a musical event titled 'Liviance'.

The initiative was organised by The Monks - an independent collective of artists - in collaboration with the Mental Health and Counselling Cell of JNC, Blue Alpha Productions, and RB Studios, with the support from Orin Filling Station, Maam: Ke, and The Siram Carpenters.

Addressing the gathering, JNC Principal Dr Gindu Borang emphasised the urgent need to recognise mental health as one of the most pressing challenges of this generation.

He urged students and community members to foster understanding and acceptance, and to break the barriers of stigma and taboo surrounding mental health.

Clinical psychologist Kenyam Pertin delivered an insightful session, highlighting the importance of identifying mental health issues, and shared strategies to cope with struggles and overcome challenges.

The event combined awareness with art and music, creating a platform to engage the community in meaningful dialogue on mental wellbeing. It was coordinated by Dr Apilang Apum, Dr Liha Mena and Dr Minam Yomso.
