The Arunachal Pradesh government, in collaboration with Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, is working to establish organ transplant services at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS). This will go a long way in helping people who are unable to travel outside the state, not for lack of resources, but because such facilities are not available within Arunachal.

The installation of an organ perfusion system is already underway, with the facility expected to initially begin with kidney transplantation.

With these initiatives, the Pema Khandu government aims to strengthen Arunachal's tertiary healthcare system and reduce the need for patients to travel outside the state for advanced treatment.

Under the Chief Minister's Organ Transplant Scheme (CMOTS), the state has launched a dedicated scheme under the Chief Minister's Organ Transplant Society. The scheme provides financial assistance of up to Rs 12 lakh for kidney transplants, Rs 17 lakh for bone marrow transplants and Rs 22 lakh for liver transplants.

The scheme will definitely provide significant financial relief to families facing the high costs of lifesaving transplant procedures and will be a major help to those who often have to give up seeking treatment because of the costs involved.

One can only hope that these facilities will be implemented without hiccups and receive the necessary logistical support to be rolled out without major hurdles.
