NAHARLAGUN, 28 Jun: Carrying forward its tradition of encouraging academic excellence, Kongkra Cohorts – the alumni association of the 1995 Class 10 and 1997-1998 Class 12 batches of the Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS)Naharlagun – felicitated eight meritorious students of the school in a ceremony held on Saturday.
This marked the third consecutive year that the alumni group organised the felicitation programme to recognise top performers of the school in the CBSE Class 10 and 12 examinations. The programme was held at the school premises and was attended by the principal, faculty members, students, parents, and members of the Kongkra Cohorts.
The meritorious students were felicitated with certificates of appreciation and mementoes by the alumni association.
The event, held during the morning assembly, was attended by alumni members, faculty members, parents, guardians, and a large gathering of students.
Leading the felicitation programme, NEEPCO DGM Millo Kojing, on behalf of the Kongkra Cohorts, said that the initiative was started to give back to their alma mater and to motivate current students to strive for excellence. “Our school shaped us. Through this small gesture, we want to tell the students that hard work is recognised, and that their seniors are proud of them,” he said.
The principal thanked the alumni for their consistent support, and said such programmes create a healthy competitive spirit among students. He also noted that alumni engagement has helped strengthen the bond between past and present students of the institution.
The initiative provides cash awards, citations, and mementoes to the first and second toppers of Class 10 as well as Class 12 in humanities, commerce, and science streams and accordingly, the eight toppers, namely, Tadar Takar and Shanklan Mondal (Class 10), Jummo Ropuk and Pragya Bhardwaj (Class 12, science), Tarh Ona and Rohit Kumar (Class 12, commerce), and Bamang Yanu and Kumar Vishnu Singh (Class 12, humanities) were felicitated with citations, mementos and cash awards for topping the CBSE’s AISSE and AISSC examinations for the academic session 2025-26.
Kongkra Cohorts chairman Jumdo Kena, who is an executive engineer in the Hydropower Department, said, “This school is where we learnt the value of discipline and hard work. Twenty-eight years later, we return not just with nostalgia, but with responsibility. These students are the future of Arunachal Pradesh. By recognising them today, we want to tell every child in GHSS Naharlagun that excellence will always be celebrated, and assure that the association will continue its support to the school.”
Earlier, GHSS Vice Principal Phassang Sama appreciated the alumni’s gesture, and urged them to continue their spirit of giving back to their alma mater. Faculty members expressed gratitude to Kongkra Cohorts for acknowledging the efforts of their children.
Kongkra Cohorts has announced that it will continue the felicitation programme in the coming years as part of its commitment to academic promotion and community service.
Prominent alumnus Khoda Bath (EAC, Naharlagun), Sanjeev Chetry (BEO, Yupia), Nawan Lamnio (social activist), educationists Anil Kujur, Joydeep Mazumdar, Punyo Lento and Sanjay Singh, and entrepreneur Techi Romen, the school’s faculty members, non-teaching staff, students and parents of the toppers, among others, were present on the occasion.
