HAYULIANG, 16 Jul: The Anjaw Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) celebrated the 98th foundation day of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) at Hoiliang village and Khupa on Thursday.
The event saw the participation of 26 farmers and KVK staffers.
The celebration, held on the theme ‘Reflecting on 98 Years: Reimagining Agriculture for Viksit Bharat @2047’, highlighted the commendable contributions of the ICAR in strengthening Indian agriculture.
KVK scientists spoke about what the ICAR has done in the last 98 years in terms of agricultural research, education, and extension. They also spoke about how to change Indian agriculture in the future through new ideas, climate resilience, protecting natural resources, digital technologies, and interventions that focus on farmers.
Scientists of the KVK interacted with the farmers and emphasised on the importance of adoption of climate smart agriculture, efficient water management, improved varieties of crops, integrated farming system, mechanisation, and value addition to enhance farm productivity and income in the hilly ecosystem of Anjaw district. The role of youths and women in creating agricultural entrepreneurship and sustainable rural development was particularly emphasised.
The programme also highlighted the different technologies and extension activities carried out by the KVK for improving the livelihood of the farmers of the district. The farmers shared their experience of adoption of improved agricultural methods, and appreciated the continuous technical guidance and support being provided by the KVK.
The programme ended with the commitment of the KVK to continue serving the farming community by providing research-based technologies, capacity building and extension services for sustainable agricultural development in the remote border district.
