ITANAGAR, 4 Oct: With the state government making Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe (APST) certificates compulsory for examinations conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) and Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB), some students have alleged that they are facing difficulties while filling out application forms.
The name of the Meyor tribe has reportedly not been mentioned in the tribe column for the upcoming APPSC Combined Competitive Examination, making it difficult for aspirants belonging to the community to complete the application process.
The Meyor tribe belongs to Anjaw district and inhabits places such as Kibithoo and Dong, where the sun rises first in India.
"I have been trying to fill out the form, but our tribe name has not been mentioned in the list, and there is no option for 'Others' either. So, I am not able to fill out the form," said an aspirant belonging to the Meyor tribe.
As advised by the APPSC office, the aspirant submitted his ST and PRC certificates via email to the commission's helpline.
"I was advised to submit my details through email, which I did. Almost a week has passed, but I have not heard anything from the commission. I am worried and unable to concentrate on my studies. I would like to appeal to the commission to look into the matter urgently," the aspirant added.
The aspirant said the incident had deeply hurt the sentiments of the community.
"I have to prove my Arunachalee identity, which is really embarrassing. We are residents of Kaho, the last border village bordering China, as well as Dong, where the sun rises first in India. For many years, we have never faced this kind of issue. We urge the commission to immediately make the necessary correction," the aspirant added.
The APPSC office could not be reached for comment.
