LONGDING, 10 Oct: An awareness camp on 'New Labour Codes, Bonded Labour, and Child Labour' was organised here on Saturday by the District Labour & Employment Department, in collaboration with the district administration.
The event aimed to sensitise the participants to labour-related legislation and promote the protection of workers' rights.
The programme featured addresses by advocate Epha Wangpan and District Art & Culture Officer Jamwang Lowang.
Wangpan spoke on the prevention of bonded and child labour, emphasising the need to safeguard the rights, dignity, and welfare of vulnerable sections of society.
Speaking on the four new labour codes, Lowang highlighted the key features of the Code on Wages, Code on Social Security, Industrial Relations Code, and Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code. He also explained the distinctions among unorganised workers, gig workers, and platform workers, emphasising the importance of inclusivity in social security under the new framework.
Both resource persons stressed the importance of eligible workers registering on the e-Shram portal to facilitate access to social security benefits and welfare schemes. (DIPRO)
