DAPORIJO, 17 Aug: Normal life was disrupted in parts of Upper Subansiri district on Monday following a 12-hour bandh call given by the Upper Subansiri district unit of the Frontier Highway Committee in protest against the prolonged delay in completion of the Subansiri bridge.

Most shops in Daporijo and Dumporijo towns remained closed, and only a few vehicles were seen on the roads.

The Frontier Highway Committee said seven years have passed since the construction of the Subansiri bridge began, but the bridge is yet to be completed, causing immense hardship to commuters.

The committee claimed that the construction company had earlier given an undertaking before the district administration and other stakeholders that the bridge would be completed within 100 working days. However, the committee alleged that despite the assurance, the work remains incomplete.

The committee also raised questions over the quality of construction work. It alleged that work on the bridge under the Trans-Arunachal Highway was not being done as per the required standards.

The committee said it was compelled to resort to the 12-hour bandh to register its strong protest before the government.
