NEW DELHI, 24 Aug: The BWF World Championships 2026, which saw participation of top shuttlers from over 55 countries, concluded at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on 23 August, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) said in a release.
This was the second time India hosted the world championships, after Hyderabad in 2009.
In a press statement, BAI secretary-general Sanjay Mishra said: "This historic edition, staged for the first time in the national capital with participation from over 55 countries, will be remembered as a landmark for Indian badminton."
On behalf of the organising committee, the BAI thanked Badminton World Federation (BWF), the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and the Sports Authority of India for their support in conducting the event in a grand and befitting manner.
BAI president Himanta Biswa Sarma was credited for his leadership in bringing the world championships back to India after 17 years, after Hyderabad in 2009.
The organising committee also thanked the people of India for their support in hosting the prestigious event, and acknowledged the contribution of stakeholders, sponsors, technical officials, volunteers, media, and badminton fans.
