BOMDILA, 25 Jun: In a bid to ease traffic movement within Bomdila township, West Kameng District Magistrate (DM) Dr Dilip Kumar issued an order on Tuesday, restricting the entry of heavy vehicles into the township.

“It has been observed that the movement of heavy vehicles through Bomdila township, particularly within the market area and Centre Point, has resulted in frequent traffic congestion during peak hours, causing considerable inconvenience to the general public and posing risks to road safety,” the order stated.

The order noted that unrestricted movement of heavy vehicles adversely affects smooth passage of emergency response vehicles, hampers traffic management, and endangers pedestrian safety within the township.

In the interest of public safety, traffic discipline and efficient urban mobility, the DM, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him under Sections 115 and 116 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, read with Sections 30(2) (xviii) and 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, issued the order for immediate implementation.

Under the order, no heavy vehicle shall be permitted to enter Bomdila town either from the Bomdila welcome gate (near Bomdila bypass) and from Bomdila pass from 7 am to 7 pm on all days.

However, military vehicles operating from RR Hill shall be exempted from the restriction, subject to the condition that they strictly use the designated route from RR Hill to Bomdila bypass and do not enter the restricted town area.

The order further cautioned that any person found violating the order shall be liable for appropriate legal action under the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and any other applicable laws and regulations in force.

Meanwhile, the town magistrates have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the order in close coordination with the superintendent of police and all enforcement agencies concerned.
