KHONSA, 17 May: The Department of Tirap, Changlang and Longding (DoTCL) honoured achievers in various fields, including sports, academics and social work, of the three districts during the first TCL Achievers’ Award programme held here in Tirap district on Sunday.
Those felicitated were Kamdon Boi (judo), Laatwang Kamhua (wushu), Jyoti Panka (academics), and Sontung Lowang Bangsia (social work) from Tirap; Mercy Naimung (wushu), Maria Tangkhu (academics), Chanlang Tangha and Ngungtim Changmi (social work) from Changlang; and Gangphung Gangsa (taekwondo), Nyeman Wangsu (wushu), Chanphua Wangsu (social work), and Chemrang Marshall Jamikham (academics) from Longding.
The achievers received cash awards.
Speaking at the event, DoTCL Minister Wangki Lowang congratulated the achievers and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence and bringing greater pride and recognition to the region.
Emphasising the importance of parental guidance and nurturing from an early age, he said that, while young people possess immense talent and potential, greater efforts are needed to channel those abilities into meaningful achievements and outcomes.
Highlighting new initiatives under the DoTCL, Lowang announced the introduction of free coaching for aspirants preparing for APPSC, UPSC, and APSSB examinations, along with felicitation programmes for toppers from the TCL region.
He stressed that “the TCL region must move forward together with unity and cooperation for a stronger future.”
MLA Chakat Aboh encouraged them to continue striving for greater accomplishments, while DoTCL Chairman Tanpho Wangnaw appreciated the initiative undertaken by the DoTCL.
Earlier, DoTCL Secretary-cum-Director Wayong Khimhun highlighted the importance of recognising achievers from various fields to motivate more youths from the TCL districts.
DoTCL Deputy Director Wangton Lowang highlighted the initiatives taken by the department, which include felicitation for meritorious students of TCL from 2003 onwards, and free coaching for UPSC and APSC aspirants of the region.
Tirap Deputy Commissioner Techu Aran, DoTCL Chairman Tanpho Wangnaw and its Assistant Director Montu Mossang, among others, attended the programme. (DIPRO)
