BALINONG, 26 May: Commerce & Industries Minister Nyato Dukam visited the special economic zone (SEZ) here in Changlang district on Tuesday and held discussions with the district administration, officers of the Department of Trade & Commerce, and members of the local community, including those of the SEZ Balinong Committee, regarding the developmental prospects and issues concerning the SEZ.

Responding to a memorandum submitted by the villagers, highlighting the need for expeditious development of the SEZ and construction of a flood protection wall along the Dehing River covering the Balinong and Magantong areas to protect them from erosion and flooding, Dukam, who was accompanied by Trade & Commerce Director Sonyung Modi and Trade & Commerce Deputy Director Toko Togur, gave assurance that the concerns and developmental requirements raised by the villagers would be examined for necessary action at the earliest.

He reiterated that, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the government’s commitment towards promoting trade, infrastructure and economic development stands firm.

Earlier, the minister was received by officers of the district administration, including Changlang SP Kirli Padu, Kharsang SDO Dorjee Wangchu, Miao Assistant Commissioner Nawang Thutan. A warm welcome was also accorded by the villagers of Balinong, led by Balinong GPC Wangman Ronrang.
