KHONSA, 24 May: Establishment of a medical college in Tirap district to cater to the healthcare and educational aspirations of the TCL region was one of the key issues raised during a state-level review meeting held virtually on Saturday.
Emphasis was also laid on the widening and improvement of the narrow roads within Khonsa township, and finding a long-term solution to the recurring road blockages in Lazu, which continue to disrupt connectivity and create hardships for commuters and residents.
During the meeting, which was chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Tirap Deputy Commissioner Techu Aran presented a detailed overview of the district’s major developmental and administrative challenges requiring urgent policy intervention and support at the state level.
Among the most critical concerns highlighted were acute shortage of human resources across key departments, including administrative officers, doctors, teachers and police personnel, which continue to affect service delivery and governance.
The DC also underscored the urgent need for upgrading the Khonsa township roads and the establishment of a dedicated multipurpose convention hall for district-level administrative, cultural and public events.
Other major issues brought to the forefront included construction of diversion roads to improve connectivity and reduce congestion, strengthening broadband and network connectivity in far-flung areas, addressing the shortage of official vehicles, creation of residential quarters for officers and staffers, and phase-wise reconstruction and upgradation of ageing government office buildings.
The DC further highlighted the need for protection and development of the Charju riverfront at Deomali, reconstruction of the FCI godown, development of a multi-level parking complex in Khonsa, and upgrading Wangcha Rajkumar College into a multi-faculty institution, which would greatly benefit students from Tirap, Changlang and Longding (TCL) districts.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta, minister Wangki Lowang, MLAs Chakat Aboh, Wanglam Sawin and Wanglin Lowangdong, senior administrative officers, the Tirap SP, and HoDs of Tirap district also attended the meeting virtually. [DIPRO]
