Chief Minister Pema Khandu urged farmers to make full use of Arunachal Pradesh' diverse agro-climatic conditions and focus on modern technology, value addition, market linkages and institutional financing as he outlined opportunities in food processing, supply to the armed forces, fisheries, poultry, dairy, pork, oil palm and coffee. He called for coordinated efforts to make agriculture and allied sectors sustainable and profitable.

The State Agriculture Information Hub-cum-Farmers' Hostel, the first of its kind in the state, was inaugurated for farmers. It will focus on capacity building, knowledge-sharing, technical training and professional exposure.

With a large section of the population engaged in farming but lacking adequate market linkages, the state can play a major role by facilitating better access to markets. Most farmers are reliant on middlemen, who make huge profits. Farmers are often left with no choice but to accept the prices set by middlemen for perishable items due to a lack of storage and other necessary facilities.

The government needs to look at the practical problems being faced by farmers and determine how best it can intervene to ensure that farmers are able to get fair prices for their produce without incurring losses.
