NIRJULI, 27 Jul: An AICTE-approved 8-day faculty development programme (FDP) on universal human values (UHV) got underway at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) here on Monday.

Organised by the UHV Cell of the NERIST, the programme is being conducted from 27 July to 3 August, with the objective of strengthening value-based education and integrating UHV into higher education.

Addressing the participants, Academic Dean Prof Sarsing Gao highlighted the significance of value-based education in technical institutions, and emphasised the role of faculty members in nurturing responsible professionals equipped with ethical competence and human values.

Resource person from NCC-IP, AICTE, Prof Himanshu Kumar Rai, explained that the FDP is designed not only to familiarise participants with the philosophy and content of UHV but also to equip them with effective pedagogical approaches for integrating these values into classroom teaching and institutional practices.

NERIST Director Prof Narendranath S underscored the importance of holistic education that combines technical excellence with ethical responsibility, mutual respect, and concern for society. He encouraged the participants to actively engage in the programme and apply the knowledge gained in their academic and professional responsibilities.

During the eight-day programme, the participants will engage in interactive sessions, reflective discussions, experiential learning activities, and deliberations on the philosophical foundations and practical applications of UHV. The FDP aims to empower educators to integrate value-based education into technical curricula and contribute to creating a humane, ethical, and socially responsible academic environment, the NERIST informed in a release.
