HAYULIANG, 22 May: A team from the Anjaw Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) here conducted field monitoring and survey of kiwi fruit, plum and piggery unit from 21-22 May in Chaglagam village under the Tribal Sub-Plan.

The activity was aimed at assessing field-level conditions, guiding farmers on scientific practices, and ensuring sustainable livelihood opportunities in the region.

Earlier, in March, 2025 and February, 2026 the KVK had distributed 2,500 kiwi fruits and 2,250 plum saplings to farmers. In September, 2025 the KVK Anjaw had supported the farming community by distributing Hampshire cross piglets to 15 selected farmers from Chaglagam, each receiving 2-3 piglets along with feed, medicines and training leaflets.

During the field visit, the team observed healthy plant growth and vigorous establishment of the saplings in the farmers’ fields. The team also surveyed the piggery units and noted that the pigs were healthyand growing well, and some pigs are pregnant. Technical guidance on scientific pig farming was provided to the farmers.

During the field visit, more than 25 farmers’ fields and 15 piggery units were visited by the KVK team, who interacted with local farmers and provided hands-on technical support.

Horticulture scientist Satveer Yadav highlighted orchard management practices such as weeding, training and pruning, and integrated pest and disease management of kiwi fruit and plum orchard. Land and water conservation scientist Ugarsain Sangwan recommended using half-moon terraces on moderately sloping land for plum orchards to reduce topsoil loss and conserve soil moisture in the plum and kiwi orchards. He also collected 25 soil samples from the farmers’ fields to analyse soil fertility and nutrient status.
