GUWAHATI, 29 May: In a tragic road accident, veterinary officer Dr Lige Basar, along with his wife Kunga Doima Basar, son Gemar Basar, and his son’s friend Karma Sherab Khrimey died on Friday at Sonapur near Guwahati in Assam.
As per reports, they were on their way back from Guwahati and were killed when their Mahindra Bolero rammed into cement-loaded heavy truck parked along NH 27 in the Khetri area.
The bodies have been brought back to Arunachal Pradesh from Guwahati.
Meanwhile, the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary & Dairy Development expressed shock over the tragic demise of Dr Basar and the three others. In a statement, the department, describing him as one of the finest officers, said the death of Dr Basar is an irreparable loss to the department and the veterinary fraternity of Arunachal.
“He was a sincere, dedicated and compassionate officer who served the farming community of Yachuli in Keyi Panyor district with utmost commitment. His professionalism, humility, and selfless service to animal welfare and rural livelihoods will be remembered with great respect. The void left by his untimely passing will be deeply felt by his colleagues, staff, and the many farmers whose lives he touched,” the department added.
Gemar Basar and Karma Sherab Khrimey were MBBS students.
According to Assam Police sources, the accident occurred between 11:30 am and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling crashed into a truck stationed along National Highway 27.
“All four occupants of the Bolero died on the spot,” the police added.
Family sources said that Dr Basar, his wife, son and Khrimey had travelled to Guwahati to meet the couple’s daughter, who is pursuing her college education there. After spending time with her, they were returning home to Arunachal when tragedy struck.
The accident has left the daughter as the sole surviving member of her immediate family.
