SILLE, 5 Jun: Demonstrating that education and agriculture can go hand in hand, Kaling Siram, a resident of Debing who is now settled in Sille in East Siang district, has emerged as a successful progressive farmer through the adoption of diversified and modern farming practices.
A postgraduate in English literature, Siram chose a different path from the conventional career options pursued by many graduates. Instead, he ventured into agriculture and livestock farming, transforming his passion into a sustainable and profitable livelihood.
His farm includes hybrid dairy cows, goat rearing units, several fish ponds, dragon fruit cultivation, exotic fruit orchards, and seasonal vegetable crops such as mustard, cabbage, and other local produce.
By integrating multiple agricultural activities, Siram has developed a model farm that generates income throughout the year while promoting sustainable and scientific farming practices.
His success in dragon fruit cultivation, fish farming, dairy production, and goat rearing has attracted the attention of fellow farmers and local youthsinterested in agriculture-based entrepreneurship.
Speaking about his journey, Siram emphasised that educated youths should explore the vast opportunities available in the agricultural sector. According to him, scientific farming, proper planning, innovation, and hard work can make agriculture both a profitable and respectable profession.
