ITANAGAR, 19 Jun: The Women & Child Development Department, in collaboration with the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) district administration, felicitated girl students of government schools in the ICR who secured the first position in the 2025-26 academic session, at the DC office here on Friday, under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme.
Notably, all four achievers felicitated during the programme are students of Malo Tarin Government Higher Secondary School Itanagar, reflecting the institution’s remarkable academic excellence and commitment to quality education.
The felicitated girl achievers are: Pompi Kar – 89.80% (Class 10), Kessang Tamin – 88.20% (Class 12, humanities), Yumlam Leema – 79.00% (Class 12, science) and Sagata Nath – 79.60% (Class 12, commerce).
Cash prize of Rs 10,000 each, along with certificates, were awarded to the girl child achievers.
Speaking on the occasion, ICDS Deputy Director Jaya Taba briefed the gathering on the objectives of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, a flagship programme of the Government of India, aimed at celebrating the birth of girl children, promoting their education and achievements, and addressing the issue of declining child sex ratio.
She emphasised that the programme focuses on ensuring the survival, protection, and empowerment of girls through education and equal opportunities.
Itanagar Additional Superintendent of Police Shruti encouraged the students to remain consistent, disciplined, and hardworking, stating that academic excellence forms the foundation for future success in life.
Addressing the gathering, ICR Deputy Commissioner Toko Babu stressed that girl children should not be discriminated against in any form and must be encouraged to dream big and work hard. He observed that recent competitive examinations such as the UPSC, APPSC, and APSSB have demonstrated that girls can excel and even outperform their male counterparts when provided with equal opportunities.
He highlighted that a supportive and congenial home environment is one of the key factors behind many success stories. (DIPRO)
