AALO, 25 May: Papum Pare and East Kameng won the boys’ and the girls’ football competitions, respectively, of the state-level 9th Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy (HDMT).
Papum Pare clinched the title after defeating Lower Siang 4-3 in penalty shootout in the final here in West Siang district on Monday. The match went to a tie-breaker after the teams were tied 1-1 in fulltime.
In the girls’ category, East Kameng beat Namsai 3-1 to win the title.
In the boys’ volleyball final, Kurung Kumey defeated Upper Subansiri 2-1, while in the girls’ category Capital Complex won the final, beating Keyi Panyor 2-1.
MLA Chau Zingnu Namchoom and Aalo-based 5 Infantry Brigade’s Brigadier Ritesh Katoch attended the final day of the event and distributed prizes to the winners and the runners-up.
Over 1,700 players, coaches, officials, and support staff from all 28 districts participated in the tournament.
The tournament was inaugurated by Sports Minister Kento Jini on 16 May.
The closing function was attended by Sports Authority of Arunachal Chairman John Neelam, and officials from the Sports Department. (DIPRO)
