ITANAGAR, 16 Jun: Indian poet and former member of the NERIST, Debabrata Maji, was awarded the coveted 2026 Golden Eagle Award by the Spanish Ministry of Culture on 12 June.
This is Spain’s most prestigious literary recognition,awarded by the Unión Hispanomundial de Escritores, an international organisation of Hispanic/global writers headquartered in Spain/Peru.
Maji’s path meandered through the structured world of engineering before blossoming into an awe-inspiring legacy in the poetic realm. Despite pursuing a career in engineering, the written word never loosened its grip on his soul. Maji’s creation will also be highlighted in the virtual publication in the world magazine Equinox after translating it in Spanish.
His literary prowess, distinguished by a profound sensitivity and refined craftsmanship, has been recognised far and wide. The world acknowledged his contributions by bestowing upon him 20 honorary doctorates.
Recognition followed in waves, with 15 prestigious annual literary awards adorning his illustrious career – one of the most remarkable being the Silver Saraswati Statue, a symbol of divine wisdom and artistic excellence. The weight of his influence is evident in the vast array of publications that carry his name. His unique poetic creations have graced numerous magazines, newspapers, and contemporary anthologies, reaching readers across India and beyond.
Maji’s written legacy has been solidified through thirteen poetry collections. His books are Kavita Bichitra, Kavita Darpan, Probad Angina, Premer Boikunth, SonnetBhaskar, Harano Bamsari, Smarane Manane, Vande Mataram, Barnera Rahasya, Dreamscape, The Peace, The Divine Glow and Maxims 500.
Among the awards he has won are Bharat Gaurav Ishan Award, International Solidarity Award, Kabi Ratna Award, Sarat Sahitya Ratna Award, Bengal Shiksha Gaurav Award, International Kabi Ratna Award, Bango Ratna Award, Royal of Art and Literature Award, Bishwa Bongo Sahitya Award, Golden Pen Award, Golden Star Award, William Shakespeare Award, Nelson Mandela Award, Poet of Nature Award,
Colombian Literacy Excellence Award, honorary academician from the International Academy of Rome, Literary Pioneers Award, and the Illustrious Bastion of Literary Union Award, among others.
