DIRANG, 29 Aug: A massive landslide triggered by incessant rain completely damaged a cafeteria at Hot Spring in Dirang, West Kameng district, in the early hours of Saturday.
According to sources, continuous rainfall caused a large chunk of earth to slide down at around 3 am, severely damaging the café. All items in the cafeteria were reportedly damaged and buried under mud and debris. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Local youths and personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police rushed to the site and assisted in recovering the belongings and other items from the debris.
Meanwhile, Rinchin Tsering, brother of local MLA Phurpa Tsering, also reached the site early in the morning and joined the people in the recovery efforts. He assured the café owner of all possible assistance, and appealed to the administration to extend necessary support to help the affected owner.
Later, officials from the district administration also visited the site to take stock of the situation and assess the extent of damage caused by the landslide.
