NEW DELHI, 24 Jul: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has informed that it is monitoring the monsoon situation across the country.
The MHA in a statement said that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, it is extending necessary support to affected states and union territories in managing challenges posed by heavy rains.
In July 2026, the country has faced heavy rains and landslides in some parts like Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Dadar and Nagar Haveli, Daman, J&K, etc. The MHA integrated control room (ICR-ER) is working in close coordination with other central agencies, including the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Central Water Commission (CWC) and Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) for providing timely alerts to state emergency operation centres and district emergency operation centres. Besides disseminating early warnings to states/UTs and districts, the control room is monitoring all the rescue activities round the clock, the MHA informed.
The Home Ministry added that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is coordinating with state government agencies, state police and SDRF in all these places for rescue and relief operations to save human lives. In coordination with the MHA, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has also mobilised its resources to save stranded people, provide assistance to rescue agencies in transportation of men and materials, and distribute relief materials, informed the MHA.
Further, under directions of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, inter-ministerial central teams have already visited the affected areas of Arunachal and Assam from 7 to 10 July for assessing the extent of damages and to provide necessary financial assistance to these states from the NDRF.
Another inter-ministerial central team is scheduled to visit the affected areas of Assam from 25 July for assessing losses and damages caused due to incessant rains and floods.
Also, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) informed that it has activated its emergency response mechanism and issued directions to all telecom service providers to enable intra-circle roaming (ICR) in four districts of Arunachal – Keyi Panyor, Lower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri, and West Siang – for an initial period of three days when it was hit by flash flood.
The affected areas witnessed extensive damages to telecom infrastructure, following heavy rainfall and cloudburst incidents. According to reports received from the field, flash floods entered the NEEPCO exchange in Posa, Yazali, rendering the exchange non-functional. Multiple landslides between Potin and Yazali also damaged approximately 12 kilometres of optical fibre cable (OFC), adversely impacting communication services in the region. Continuous rainfall, landslides and disruption of commercial power supply have further hampered restoration efforts.
The damage to OFC infrastructure in Hoj affected connectivity in Sagalee, Lemmi, Kampu and Seppa areas. Restoration teams have been deployed and are working to restore connectivity through the Sopo-Hoj route, the DoT informed.
The activation of the ICR will allow mobile subscribers of any participating telecom service provider to automatically access another available network in locations where their home network is temporarily unavailable, it added. (PIB)
