MIAO, 26 Jun: The authorities of the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) have informed that the much-awaited 132/33 kv power sub-station here in Changlang district is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of July this year.

The project, which has witnessed several delays over the years, is finally nearing completion with final testing and commissioning procedures currently underway.

The sub-station is being established under the Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening of Transmission and Distribution System (CSST&DS) for Arunachal Pradesh, and is being executed by the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.

The construction of the 132 kv transmission line from Namsai to Miao had faced numerous hurdles, resulting in prolonged delays and causing immense inconvenience to the people of the region. For years, residents of Miao, Jairampur and Bordumsa administrative subdivisions have struggled with inadequate and erratic power supply, as these areas remain largely dependent on neighbouring Assam for electricity. Frequent power disruptions and insufficient electricity have adversely affected daily life, business activities, educational institutions, healthcare services and overall development.

The absence of a reliable power infrastructure has also hindered industrial growth in the region. Entrepreneurs and investors have often been reluctant to establish industries and commercial ventures due to the uncertainty of power availability. As a result, the immense economic potential of the region has remained largely untapped despite its strategic location and abundant natural resources.

The upcoming sub-station is being viewed as a milestone infrastructure project that could usher in a new era of progress and prosperity for Miao, Jairampur and Bordumsa. Once operational, it is expected to reduce dependence on external power sources and strengthen the region’s energy security.

After years of waiting and uncertainty, the commissioning of the Miao 132/33 kv power sub-station offers renewed hope that reliable electricity will become a catalyst for economic growth, infrastructure development and improved quality of life for the people of the region.
